6-6-25 Racing 3-Utah 2

So many goals, so many celebrations…these are the pictures that I love to take!

Warm-up gallery It was lovely to watch the players start out in their mint rain jackets and one-by-one shed said jackets as they literally warmed up and the rain stopped.

Utah scored early, but I didn’t get any pictures of that nonsense. Racing responded like your best friend when you steal some of her fries, “So that’s how it gonna be? Alright…” and tied the game in less than ten total minutes played. Katie O’Kane took the ball down the field and set up Emma Sears for Racing’s first goal. It was a beautiful play and the curviest kick into the goal that anyone has ever seen IRL. I think the ball spent a solid 3 seconds touring the real estate in the net before actually touching the net at the opposite side from where Sears launched it.

While the team celebrates the first goal (by Emma Sears), Ellie Jean tells Arin Wright that she will take care of the second goal.

Taylor Flint, who took approximately 63 hits to the face and head during the match, gets a good look at the goal. It was just a tad too high.

I think Katie O’Kane’s braid demonstrates how quickly she was moving and how masterfully she controlled the ball every time she touched it. She set up some of the night’s best plays.

The exact moment that Ellie Jean realized that she scored - her very first NWSL goal by the way - she was off running like my daughter when I loan her my Target card.

Savannah DeMelo drew fouls from Utah all night as they refused to leave her open for even a second.

Halftime Footy Gallery

Second half started off with several attempts to get Lauren Milliet the ball for a shot on target. DeMelo, Sears, and Weber all set up plays with lots of promise, but the Defender (Milliet) drew the Utah defenders like moths to a flame and she was blocked on every shot.

Janine Sonis had an awesome run down the field, but the Utah Keeper didn’t blink for a solid 60 seconds, and the shot sailed over the bar.

Shortly after, Sarah Weber launched a header that couldn’t miss, and Racing took a 3-2 lead.

This time, the team was happy to celebrate Sarah Weber’s first NWSL goal with her.
