Racing v. Spirit 4-12-25
Though Racing didn’t score, they certainly gave the Spirit a good haunting. Enjoy some pictures with my thoughts on the action as well as the gallery of thoughtless pictures. If you can use the images for your purposes, please do so, but I’d love a photo credit.
Lauren Milliet ponders the existence of the bright object in the sky during warm-ups. The game-day appearance of the sun is a welcome refrain from the prior game’s downpour and the prior weeks of rain and flooding in Louisville.
I love this warm-up drill for the backline when they switch-off the run up. This shot gives me “Lauren and her back-up dancers” vibes, with the Ref close by to call a foul if needed. (Would’ve made about as much sense as some of the other fouls they called during the game.)
This weekend, my young friends pointed out that Barbies with non-hinged arms are less fun to play with. I imagine this is how Barbie would look playing soccer. Arin Wright knows that this is a great way to ensure no accidental handballs.
Kayla Fisher had the best shot at scoring in this game (IMO) but she attracted Spirit defenders like a magnet drawn to, well another magnet when she was even thinking about a score. Her teammates gave her plenty of space. Maybe too much.
Emma Sears really tried to score, but it was like the Spirit were expecting it. Like they had heard of her, and decided she was most likely to score. Like they prepared for her. Huh. When she charged the goal during this, most promising attempt, they closed ranks and did everything but grab her ponytail to take her down.
The fear in Bernal’s face. The confidence in Milliet’s. The Barbie arms and the bright nails. Lots to love about this moment.
However you pronounce her name, this Rookie had a great game. (I’m a poet, and I didn’t even know that I was rhyming those words!)
I don’t know who Peterson was yelling at, but I’m glad it wasn’t me. She is fierce. Literally. Not like “those shoes are fierce and it’s 2005” but athletically bringing the energy to every play, especially her throw-ins.
We know she’s tall, but Taylor Flint periodically reminds us what that means in terms of headers and strides.
When Uchenna Kanu got in the game, about 30 minutes too late, she didn’t waste any time letting us know that she would like to score. The Spirit politely said nah.
I think image is a great summary of the game: Racing was doing a lot of chasing. Accidental Poem #2 and Lauren Milliet Image #87 because honestly she gave me the most material. And my camera is usually pointed at her.
My watch party included the hubby (not pictured), our friends Cheryl & Josh (not pictured), drop bys from other friends (not pictured), and our box neighbor, Savannah DeMelo’s friend, Kyle Adams of Lou City FC (pictured for obvious reasons).
