6-11-25 Lou City FC defeats RI FC 2-1 — Fleur-de-lis FC
Honestly, I got no beef with Rhode Island the state. I haven't spent a whole lot of time there, but the time Elizabeth and I have spent there was wonderful. I hope to return some summer soon (I fear New England winters). However, everyone in Louisville has mad beef with Rhode Island FC. Let's see if the Boys in Purple can salvage some revenge tonight.
Lou City Lined up as:
1-Las, 2-McFadden, 4-Totsch, 5-Ordóñez , 7-Serrano, 9-Goodrum, 13-Dia, 16-A Perez 17-T Davila, 31-Lambert, 32-Adams
1st Minute
We’ve got a “look at me” officiating crew tonight as the center ref has already stopped play to micromanage something.
4th Minute
Lambert goes down injured in what already feels like the 100th stoppage in the first 180 seconds. I can already tell that Rhode Island is not interested in playing football at any time when the score is even.
7th Minute
A (Bone Dry!) yellow card is issue on Frank Nodarse. Lambert will exit and need stitches. Evan Davila enters.
8th Minute
Serrano whiffs on a cross somehow.
10th Minute
Rhode Island’s Karifa Yao flops on the lightest of contact from Goodrum. I hate these guys.
14th Minute
The Rhode Island keeper slips, and the balls finds its way to Serrano who can’t make the keeper pay as his shot goes wide right.
17th Minute
Evan Davila (in for Lambert) picks up a very “Arsenal-y” yellow card for delaying the restart. It’s the type of card that Arsenal (and now Lou City) gets while evidently everyone else is allowed to get away with a similar offense sans yellow card.
20th Minute
McFadden (the pretty clear man of the match) scores on a header with an assist from Adrien Perez following a corner. Lou City lead 1-0.
27th Minute
Lou City let in a mess of a goal as a comedy of errors results in the ball hitting the post, then Adams, then the back of the net. Las and Ordóñez need to do better on that long ball. All square.
33rd Minute
Goodrum has a really good opportunity, but chests the ball too hard and loses his angle. The keeper saves easily.
37th Minute
Evan Davila is the slightest bit fortunate not to pick up a second yellow. Rhode Island run off about 2 minutes before taking the free kick.
39th Minute
Lou City scramble a dangerous chance off the line which directly leads to a dangerous counter let by Adrien Perez. It is blocked out for a corner. The assistant referee, who I have named Shuffley Magoo due to his overexaggerated sideways running style and lack of vision, misses an obvious shove in the back on McFadden. Referees learn to ignore these types of fouls when they take a special class every offseason called “Never call the match the same way inside the box vs. outside of it”.
First Half Stoppage
Giant crybaby, Grant Stoneman complains to Shuffley Magoo, who ignores his complaints but allows him to time waste by doing so.
Rhode Island simultaneously controls the five minutes of stoppage time and time wastes their best spell of football in the match. Bizarre…
Half Time
Lou City 1 - What Cheer? 1
Did I mention that I hate these guys.
The sunset is beautiful.
46th Minute
Lou City wastes a golden opportunity at the beginning of the half when Adrien Perez can’t quite find either the space or the initiative to pull the trigger.
56th Minute
Rhode Island has rocked this game to sleep.
57th Minute
A sleepy Lou City lets Nodarse get a free header, but Las is there to bail the defenders out.
63rd Minute
Thank goodness for no VAR because Serrano scores an offside goal (I was right in line with Serrano). Sometimes the referee’s incompetence works to your advantage. The pass from Wilson is great. Lou City lead 2-1.
70th Minute
Gleadle makes a mess of a good chance and then McFadden get fouled whilst having his hair pulled. In a team full of jerks, Jojea Kwizera will prove to be king of all of them.
72nd Minute
The keeper covers another dangerous Lou City attack, snuffing it out.
75th Minute
Manny Perez drags a good chance wide.
79th Minute
The center referee has lost his damn mind. He stops play for no reason that I can tell, makes a hand motion that doesn’t make any sense, then awards the ball to Rhode Island.
85th Minute
Shapiro-Thompson (solid law firm name) decides that now is the time to speed up play and hurries the ball into the corner for Lou City.
2nd Half Stoppage
Not a damn thing really.
Full Time
Lou City 2 Pawtucket Red Sox 1
Danny Cruz is pleased with the performance. He states that everyone played their part. There is a minor injury worry for Adrien Perez who had ice on his calf after the match. Lambert is being checked for a concussion.
Ray Serrano, who is hilariously listed at 6 foot in Lou City’s game notes, is asked about his scoring form of which he is obviously pleased and the Fortnight dance celebration of which he seemed equally pleased.
Packed week…back at in on Saturday.
