Houston, we have a problem with you scoring in stoppage time. Racing 1-Dash 1
Savannah DeMelo beautifully controls the ball despite the handsy Houston player.
It was a perfect night for football at 72.000 degrees at 7:30pm with a light breeze blowing through Lynn Family stadium and HOW THE HECK DID THIS HAPPEN AGAIN? I take partial blame. After 70 minutes of great running and ball handling and messed up calls from the refs I may have said something about someone, anyone, needing to score to keep this interesting. In my defense, I took over 800 pictures of the scoreless Lou City-New Mexico game last weekend and my camera was hungry for some goals. It was, however, satisfied after the header goal from Taylor Flint, though I thought several times that Emma Sears and Savannah DeMelo were going to give us more.
Since they couldn’t, we should’ve walked away, 1-0. It was a hard-fought 90 minutes, and stoppage time should only be allowed if Racing is behind at the 90th minute and/ or had good referees. I’ll actually for settle non-horrible referees with IQs above 60. More on that later.
This August, Racing has been ahead at the 90th minute THREE TIMES and then conceded a goal (albeit one was an own goal) to end the game in a draw. Because I was a math major and own a calculator, I know that those three goals have cost Racing six points and kept that annoying tight cluster of teams hovering in the mid-twenties. The team has come too far to let stoppage time and poor game-officiating keep them from being all that they can be. Wait, I think that’s the army.
Before we get to the match, let’s appreciate the energy of the pre-game activities with a Gallery.
I just love Sarah Weber. Every time I look at her, she’s having a blast.
Weber and Bloomer have a pre-game dance that I really want in on. I think it was originally choreographed to “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun.”
If - more likely when - we build a statue of Sav out front of Lynn Family stadium, it should be in this position, because she loves to point out how great the pitch looks right in front of her at all times.
Jordan Rivers announced attendance - over 6,000 - and it did look like the seats were fuller than usual. Or more full? English be hard.
Makenna Morris takes her first corner kick as a Racing Louisville player. The ref looks like it’s his first corner kick, too. Not that he’s young.
Maybe he was rough on Racing because of the taunting from the fans. Guess what clever name they came up with for this gentleman. It rhymes with scald pot.
Taylor, look at how green the pitch is in front of Sav. It’s so green!
Emma Sears swiftly takes the ball down the pitch while the Dash player can’t decide if she wants to run or keep her eyes on Sears. Girl, both.
Ary Borges had a night. She was intentional and steady, like someone gave her a Xanax before the match.
Kayla Fischer fighting traffic while Emma admires her piece of wide-open green pitch between her and the net.
Acting Tip: when you lose the ball to Emma Sears, don’t be embarrassed; know that you were beaten by the best. Whatever you do, do not throw up your arms like you are being robbed at gunpoint because only the worst refs are going to buy that. Oh wait, I see what you did there.
Oh, the Barbie arms. They prevent handballs and help with balance. Can’t believe Sav went on to create a gallery of sweet moves.

Captain for the match, Janine Sonis, controlling the ball like a boss.
Coach Bev Yanez, pleased with everything she’s seeing so far.
Ella Hase about to take the ball from the Dash, like taking candy from a baby. (PSA: Babies should not have candy.)
Weber making her run for the goal. (Marketing idea: Target should sponsor all of Racing’s goal runs. Nobody asked for Bone Dry yellow card but here we are. Why not “She’s making her Target run for the goal…” and they could set up little dollar sections around the stadium so we could all do little Target run? Sorry husbands.)
This ball was a little too close, but it did its job of lighting a fire under the attackers and preparing Bloomer for childbirth one of these days.
This perfectly placed header from Taylor Flint soared over the Keeper’s head, then aided by another Dash touch, to find a nice comfy little spot in the back of the net.
It’s about time for a Celebration Gallery
I get the feeling that these two aren’t friends anymore.
Makenna Morris looking right at home. I wonder if she already had lavender cleats?
Yes I have a picture of THAT goal but I’m not posting it. Instead, let’s focus on this amazing save by Bloomer and her Player of the Match award.
We can also pretend that’s the end of the match and enjoy some other snapshots from happier times.
Humor me with a Kyle Adams-spotting Gallery because it’s so sweet how he comes out to support Sav. I don’t know who’s cup that is.
