The One Where it Got Weird

Keep Louisville Weird night could have entertained fans all day. Everyone came to embrace the weird and support the Boys in Purple, even if the boys were wearing black.

I always giggle when we chant “Come on, you Boys in Purple” when there’s no purple on the pitch. I guess a nickname is a nickname even when it doesn’t fit, like Big ‘Nita. That slim beauty brought her delicious cheesecakes to Lynn Family stadium again much to the delight of the fans. I wasn’t sure where she was set up this time, but the long line in the Beer Garden led me her way.

Throughout the stadium, there was shopping to do, haircuts to get, and pictures to take. If only there were goals to be scored! The clean sheet was amazing and hard-earned by Danny Faundez. The rest of the Lou City crew tried to dirty up the Detroit sheet with no luck.

Any suggestions for things to add next year to help with the Weird vibes? I heard a Gen-X dad suggest bringing the Bermuda Triangle. At least then we would have had three points at the match.

Prior to the match, the players warmed up in their usual groups (starters, backups, keepers). The first few players ran onto the pitch before realizing it was a BYOB situation. Manny Perez jumped in as temporary ball boy to equip the other starters. Sam Gleadle appeared to do ballet for the backups and had them all giggling. The keepers were covering the pitch, with Hugo Fauroux in street clothes, Danny Faundez in goal, and Ryan Troutman covering every angle in between.

There was a surprise visit on the pitch from Governor Andy Beshear. I could see the kids in the team’s seats asking each other who this guy was and why he had bodyguards. He shook all of their hands and even posed for a picture with one. He and his wife shook it off when his family picture with Sting was interrupted by the sprinklers. Gracious and professional and not a diaper in sight.

Can you hear the walk-out music?

Detroit drove down the pitch early to give Danny his first save.

Kyle Adams returned the favor but don’t you love when the board advertisements are well-timed? It really looked like Adams had a good chance of getting that ball into the net.

Akale showed off his magic with the ball early. He and his gold shoes really wanted a goal.

Hot tip: when guilty of a hand ball, fake an injury. Curl up like a baby. Cry for mama.

Setting up for a free kick, Taylor Davila told Jansen Wilson that he was he was going out of town this weekend to get the new Arsenal kit. Jansen asked where he was going? New Jersey. (Didn’t see that one coming from Taylor!)

I have never seen Chorus Line but this picture is giving Chorus Line.

Ever been square dancing? “Now everybody, grab your partner…”

These guys standing around looking like Governor Beshear’s bodyguards.

During halftime, the t-shirt toss turned romantic. She tosses him a shirt; he blows her a kiss. I thought it was cute. Her husband probably didn’t.

Speaking of needing to be saved, here’s Faundez with another.

That darn Kyle Adams quota isn’t going to meet itself.

I’m on the big screen, aren’t I?

Nobody does the Michael Jackson toe stand like Katie O’Kane. Except maybe Evan Davila.

What’s it called when someone other than the keeper knocks the ball out of the path of the net? It’s called a Jake Morris.

Me on Sunday night, realizing I spent the whole weekend thinking about soccer and have to remember how to “work” tomorrow.

Beautiful header by Dia for a late chance for a goal. There to tap it in: Nobody.

Other individual efforts to get the ball in the net.

Nobody liked the 0-0 result, so after the whistle there was a need for another whistle.

And for the road, the Quenzi face.
