LSC 0 - Lou City 2 As It Happened

The Uncommonwealth Cup

Don’t hold me to this, but I don’t think last night’s US Open Cup match was part of the Commonwealth Cup this year, since the match wasn’t on the schedule at the start of the season. Honestly, it probably doesn’t matter because as I have mentioned before (or maybe that was LIPAFC) this is already starting to feel like a hammer-nail rivalry in that that it is more of a consistent, one-sided beating instead of an acutual rivalry. Both teams put out strong lineups but specifically…

Lou City lined up as:

1-Fauroux, 3-Morris, 4-Totsch, 8-Davila, 14-Showunmi, 16-Moguel, 19-Niang, 23-Gleadle, 25-Wilson, 47-Akale, 32-Adams (C)

1st Minute

Both clubs line up in a show of solidarity to highlight the continuing labor dispute. One assumes that both of these sets of players are standing up more for their out-of-state brethren than themselves.

3rd Minute

Showunmi almost gets on the end of a good pass.

7th Minute

Lexington has a penalty shout, but nothing comes of it. I am in the opposite end, so I have no idea is the perceived infringement was in the box.

8th Minute

For some reason Davila passes up a shot in the middle and makes an errant pass.

13th Minute

Lexington definitely having a better start compared to Lou City.

14th Minute

Showunmi ushers one out for a corner kick.

15th Minute

On the ensuing corner, Moguel ultimately heads the delivery well over the bar.

18th Minute

Morris' shot goes hilariously out of the stadium. He will be hardily booed all evening. Somehow, I don’t think he is too bothered.

23rd Minute

Morris wins a free kick on a pretty rough tackle and hits the ground with an audible thud about 10 yards away from me.

24th Minute

GOAL! Niang's header from a free kick hits the bar, then it falls to Showunmi whose shot is kept out by a Lexington defender, but it falls into the path of Niang again who slots it home.

31st Minute

Wilson's shot from distance goes wide. He had completely beaten the keeper.

32nd Minute

A stray ball finds Showunmi, but the Lexington defenders recover.

34th Minute

Fauroux almost drops one, but makes a nice recovery

38th Minute

Lexington is having a nice spell of possession but can't do anything with it

40th Minute

Wilson can’t make good contract on a golden opportunity.

42nd Minute

Showunmi shows off some fancy footwork and gets a shot off, but it's blocked a couple of times.

Half Time

LSC 0 - Lou City 1

Not a great half of football but Lou City will take it.

50th Minute

Wilson's shot at saved pretty easily.

51st Minute

GOAL! Showunmi finishes off a good attack that started with Niang and sees a Wilson shot deflected to Akale, whose follow up shot seemed to also be on target. The Lexington fans behind me do not understand the offside rule and complain for some reason. Showunmi is not even close to being offside. That goal seemed inevitable.

53rd minute

Davila chests down a dangerous cross that Fauroux covers. There are, of course, incorrect handball shouts from the crowd.

54th Minute

Fauroux makes a good save.

60th Minute

LSC fans chant "chickie nuggies" in hope of scoring from a corner, which would get them free chicken nuggets from Chick-fil-A. This is sold work from the fans behind the LSC goal.

61st Minute

Perez, Dia, and Serrano in for Gleadle, Morris, and Wilson.

64th Minute

Niang takes a hard one in the face but is okay.

71st Minute

Serrano's corner almost finds Niang, but it just goes over his head.

76th Minute

Serrano's effort ends up being pretty tame.

78th Minute

Duncan in for Davila the Elder.

81st Minute

Davila the Younger in for Akale.

83rd Minute

Goodrum for LSC shoots one way wide. Heard in supporters end behind the goal "well, that one sucked".

85th Minute

Niang makes a long run, but his final effort is saved easily.

90th Minute

A Lexington shot hits the post but stays out.

Stoppage Time

Heard near me: "It's official, Lou City own us."

Full Time

LSC 0 - Lou City 2

The Lou City’s players reaction is a little more subdued this time compared to the March matchup, but that is likely due to the team leading for most of the match this time. Lou City had good away support again. I like the Lexington fans, staff and the stadium. Not to pick on them but their fans may want to start to have this chant ready for next time.

Of course they don’t lose every week, but they are definitely underperforming at the moment. When you have all of that high-priced talent, I wonder what you might do to shake things up? Yeah…I wonder…

Back to Lou City. Niang was super impressive to me. He ran that match. Showunmi also had his best match in a Lou City kit. This teams just seems to reload. Akale was good as well. Simon Bird is still perfect in his tenure and the Lou City freight trains keeps rolling.

Player Ratings:

Faroux-7, Morris-8, Moguel-7, Adams-8, Totsch-8, Gleadle-7, Niang-9, Davila-8, Wilson-8, Akale-8, Showunmi-9
