Lou City 4 Rhode Island 2 As It Happened
Are you ready for some football?
Rhode Island FC is one of the few teams that Lou City face on a regular basis that will actually play football against them. Lou City will never forget being knocked out of the playoffs by them a few seasons ago, so this one should be a hotly contested matchup for several seasons to come. It is Simon Bird’s first league match as the Lou City head coach, so I am sure he would appreciate a nice 2-0 drama free victory. Let’s see how that plays out.
Lou City lined up as:
1-Fauroux, 3-Morris, 4-Totsch, 5-Dayes, 6-Duncan, 7-Serrano, 8-T Davila, 9-Donovan, 15-Perez, 25-Wilson, 32-Adams (C)
5th Minute
Morris makes a promising run but is deemed to be offside.
6th Minute
The ball eventually finds Its way to Wilson but is blocked out for a corner.
8th Minute
The ball boy next to me has ice water in his veins as Totsch's kick rattles the signage board near us. He doesn't flinch. Good on you.
12th Minute
Totsch's cross finds Donovan but the header goes over the bar.
14th Minute
Morris is deemed to be offside again.
16th Minute
Davila fires one on target but the RI keeper makes a nice save.
18th Minute
The Waterfront Supporters Zone is highly suspicious of the extent of the keeper’s injury.
21st Minute
Goal. Lou City gets caught on the counter and Rhode Island finds the net first.
Lou City 0 Rhode Island 1
23rd Minute
GOAL! Morris equalizes after Donovan goes down in the box and the Waterfront Supporters Zone can calm down about the lack of any penalty decisions.
Lou City 1 RI 1
26th Minute
Morris almost gets on the end of another one, but it goes out for a corner.
31st Minute
Morris picks up a yellow card on a late challenge.
34th Minute
Lou City has to do a bit of desperate defending to avoid a counter and then Fauroux makes a nice save.
37th Minute
I miss BONE DRY yellow cards. Afonso for RI gets one after trying to sneak away.
39th Minute
Donovan pulls one back for Wilson, but he can't make good contact, and it rolls safely to the keeper.
43rd Minute
Perez makes a great effort to keep it in and the ball finds Donovan, but he puts it over top of the bar.
Stoppage Time
Another handball shout but the referee's having none of it.
Half Time
Lou City 1 RI 1
Lou City dominated the stats but still have it all to do.
There was a mascots v Lou City Kids Club penalty shootout at half time. Sting and Float were joined by Tapper, the Louisville Water Company mascot, some random frog mascot that I can’t remember who Jordan said they represented and Billy Bat. Billy Bat was definitely flirting with my girl and needs to watch himself or be prepared to rumble.
The kids for the Lou City Kids Club won handily, but there might need to be an investigation, because I think the is a very slight possibility that it may have been rigged.
48th Minute
GOAL! After Lou City put some pressure on, Wilson centers one for Duncan who buries it.
Lou City 2 RI 1
50th Minute
Fauroux has to make a save and then the ball goes out for a throw.
56th Minute
Goal. Rhode Island equalizes after Fauroux makes a save but can't keep the rebound out.
Lou City 2 RI 2
61st Minute
The referee 100% misses a handball.
63rd Minute
Yao for RI gets a yellow. Probably not a DOGSO, but it is very, very close.
65th Minute
The free kick is finally taken but the keeper makes a save on Davila's effort.
68th Minute
Gleadle in for Perez, Niang in for Duncan.
70th Minute
Serrano's would be goal is ruled out for an offside offense.
75th Minute
Wilson makes a great run but never gets a shot off.
77th Minute
GOAL! Adams’ header finds back of the net after Davila's excellent delivery.
Lou City 3 RI 2
79th Minute
Gleadle's touch lets him down in the box and the ball rolls harmlessly to the keeper.
82nd Minute
Showunmi in for Donovan.
87th Minute
Fauroux has to make a decent save on a effort from distance.
88th Minute
Fight! Then a red card. The red card seems to be on JJ Williams for putting his hands on Adams, possibly in the head/neck area.
90th Minute
Rhode Island’s Head Coach/GM gets a yellow, then a second one. Goodbye Mr. Smith. Dayes gets a yellow too.
Stoppage time
GOAL! Wilson fires one in from inside the box and it deflects into the goal.
Lou City 4 RI 2
Davila the Younger in for Serrano. I like the new banner.
Leave it to Elizabeth to include Kyle Adams in any picture requests that I make. I am not looking to rumble with him.
After the Match
Coach Bird was pleased with the effort after what has been a tough week that included Danny Cruz’s exit and a midweek cup game. The Lou City train just keeps rolling on.
Zach Duncan is just glad to be able to show what he can do on the pitch after a long recovery from a meniscus injury.
Kyle Adams was definitely more chipper than usual and said, “it’s probably one of the best games I have played for Louisville City since I have been here.”
You can’t start any better than 9 points from 3 matches, so things look positive for Lou City again this season, regardless of any coaching change.
