Lou City 2 Southern Indiana FC 0 As It Happened

It's US Open Cup Time!
I like cup competitions. They are what make soccer such a unique enterprise. However, nothing demonstrates the gap in soccer culture in America when compared to England quite like cup competitions. Most American soccer fans just don't get it. If I have to explain what “it” is, then that really defeats the purpose, so I won’t.
Lou City hosted Southern Indiana FC (SI from here on out for brevity's sake) in front of dozens of fans. These fans are the “real ones” in my opinion. No shade on you if you couldn't make it, but there is dedication and then there is “ a cold Wednesday Night in March with work the next day” dedication.
SI fans showed up well and you could definitely hear them cheer for particular players which likely meant that their fan base was mostly friends and family. Regardless, well done on supporting your local soccer club! On the flip side you are bound to get some “too cool for school” hipsters in the crowd too. Let’s see if they can do the impossible and not stick out like they pretend they so desperately don't want to.
Lou City lined up as:
1-Fauroux, 5-Dayes, 6-Duncan, 7-Serrano, 14-Showunmi, 15-Perez, 16-Moguel, 19-Niang, 21-Huerman, 23-Gleadle, 32-Adams (C)
2nd Minute
Ray tries a bicycle kick that doesn't quite come off but it looks pretty cool anyway.
6th Minute
Gleadle wins a good header and then Duncan fires it just wide. Gleadle at left back is new.
10th Minute
Some random-ass West Ham fan is here supporting SI and is spouting nonsense about Declan Rice, so I have to move. His hot take is that Arsenal is “misusing” Rice. Sure, obvious hipster…he might win PFA Player of the Year and finish top 10 in the Ballon d'Or (after finishing 27th in 2025) but Arsenal is using him “wrong”. More of you should be here so I can't hear such BS.
12th Minute
Ray fires one across the box that Showunmi can't quite get on the end of.
13th Minute
Moguel fires one with some conviction over the bar.
19th Minute
Showunmi has gone down in the box a couple of times but neither was anything of note.
20th Minute
GOAL! Showunmi pounces on a mistake and easily slots it into the net.
Lou City 1 - SIFC 0
23rd Minute
Fauroux touches the balls for the first time in about 20 minutes.
24th Minute
Adams is giving the center referee "the business" after he gives out a yellow card to an SI player for a nasty challenge on Huerman. He informs the official to expect Lou City to reciprocate the level of physicality if he doesn't address things. He says this with many expletives.
25th minute
Not sure who gets the touch on the free kick, but it goes wide.
30th Minute
GOAL! Showunmi nets a brace as he slots home a shot from the top of the box past the keeper.
Lou City 2 - SIFC 0
32nd Minute
The SI keeper spills Huerman's cross but gathers it in quickly.
33rd Minute
Dayes makes a great recovery run from the corner to prevent an attack.
34th Minute
The center referee whistles one of the milder fouls of the night as a free kick.
37th Minute
Moguel earns a yellow on a late challenge.
39th Minute
Huerman has a golden opportunity but doesn't quite catch it correctly and the keepers saves it.
Half Time
Lou City 2 - SIFC 0
Pretty much what you would expect.
46th Minute
Tostch in at half for Duncan. Moguel drops into Duncan's spot (he was at center back previously) and the back line shifts around.
47th Minute
Showumni almost gets his hat trick but the keeper makes a nice save.
54th Minute
Moguel's free kick goes right to the keeper.
55th Minute
Huerman gets a yellow card. He had been warned a few times already.
60th Minute
Perez has a good opportunity but his header deflects off a SI player safely to the keeper.
63rd Minute
Season debut for Davila the Younger! Wilson and Akale enter. Perez, Serrano and Dayes exit.
67th Minute
Wilson has a good opportunity deflected out for a corner.
68th Minute
Fauroux can't get to the cross and it's the first really dangerous opportunity for SI all night.
76th Minute
Morris in for Adams.
79th Minute
DTY has a pop on the free kick but it is wide.
80th Minute
Gleadle's turn to have a go but he skies it over the top of the bar.
83rd Minute
Wilson’s turn to sky one.
89th Minute
Kramer for SI picks up a rather cynical yellow card on Akale.
90+3 Minute
Wilson sends one wide on the free kick to end a rather boring second half.
Full Time
Lou City 2 - SIFC 0
After the match Adams talks about missed chances but a solid defensive effort. New Danny, Simon Bird, is looking ahead to the Rhode Island match on Saturday which is always a spicy one.
