Racing v. Wave 4-19-25

The 4-1 loss has temporarily sucked the joy from my soul so enjoy pictures with factual descriptions instead of my usual snarky remarks. Snarky Elizabeth will be back soon

Before the match, the team celebrated 100 NWSL games for both Lauren Milliet (pictured being crowned queen by her friend, Savannah DeMelo), and Janine Sonis, left of Milliet. They went home with bourbon, bats, and a bouquet.

The team was all smiles and bunny ears for their team picture.

As always, Milliet’s speed was a huge asset for the team, with her making a run on goal a few times during this match.

Marisa DiGrande trying to create a play.

Emma Sears trying to take possession.

Here’s the play preceding the foul on Ary Borges (that was right before the foul on Katie O’Kane); The aftermath of O’Kane’s foul is below.

The player from the Wave has her hands up in innocence, as if O’Kane just fell completely to the ground on her own, mid-stride to the goal, with the ball. Mm-hmm.

(Reminder I don’t use names from the other team unless I actually recognize them; it humanizes them and makes me feel guilty for throwing shade.)

Beautiful shot from Ary Borges.

Take a minute to enjoy the celebration from our only goal of the match. Thumbnails are 4x4 but images are 4x6.

Sav v. Sav! Are they wearing the same shoes? Someone call Nike and let’s get this campaign going!

Second half brought the return of Savannah DeMelo to the delight of the crowd. She was quickly covered by Savannah McCaskill.

And then the return of Elli Pikkujämsä, another happy moment for fans and coaches. This was Elli’s first appearance this season as she continues to recover from an injury sustained over a year ago.

While my friend, Susan, and I tried to use our scarves to warm up, the referees ordered the 2nd Hydration Break of the game. Meanwhile, the skies turned ominous and threatened to delay the last few minutes of the game. Once the referee blew the final whistle, the skies opened up and delivered giant raindrops or possibly tears for the 4-1 Racing loss.
