4-26-25 Lou City v. Richmond Pictures
“Keep your face to the sun and you will never see the shadows.” -Helen Keller
The sun made for tricky photography at this match, with Lou City making a good call early by defending the north goal with the sun to their backs. Once the sun had safely dropped below the bridge, it made for a beautiful backdrop for some late 1st half action. Enjoy snaps below from the 4-1 Lou City victory.
Well someone is happy to be here! And turns out he’s not nearly as excited as the fans, who will chant for his apperance tirelessly in the 2nd half. Welcome back, Brian Ownby!
Damian Las gives the Richmond Keeper the ol’ side-eye, wondering how many goals from the Boys in Purple this guy will be able to withstand. Poor guy had a rough night.
Kyle Adams is pretty optimistic (the comma on my keyboard isn’t working but you see it) to pump up the team before they take the pitch.
Well, I’m scared. Every single one of these players wants a goal and you can see it in their eyes. OK maybe not Las.
Serrano demonstrates his dribbling skills with his back to the sun (ignoring Helen Keller’s advice) while the fans demonstrate the need for a hat.
Gleadle makes an awesome run and has a great shot but it’s hard for a righty to put it in from that angle. Soooo close. Be patient, Sam. Your time’s coming. Don’t want you to break your streak.
Tostch makes a run with help from Adams. Tried to sneak in the left corner but the Keeper got a hand on it. Must be where his false sense of security came from. It was a great stop. I’ll even showcase it below but only because it’s such a great picture. Adams was almost celebrating. My picture, not the almost-goal.
So close.
Totsch makes another run at it. Instead of just Adams, he had 57 helpers with him. It was a party. But Green Keeper threw his body in front of this one and was down for a minute after. The physicality of the game went up a few notches after this.
Manny Perez getting warmed up for his goal. He was like a ninja when he scored; you can’t even see him in my shots below, that’s how fast he was. Couldn’t be caught on camera. Not mine, at least.
Below - Getting set for free kick; Teams are ready by the goal; Manny celebrates! Team celebrates!
(Not pictured, how the ball ended up in the goal. Maybe I’ll get the next one.)
I did capture the 2nd goal! Here is the ball in the net! I was told that Serrano scored this one but he was sneaky about it as well.
Below is the lead-up to the goal that I did manage to capture.
Adrien Perez bringing it down the field; Richmond watching a pass fly by them; the blur in the middle may be Serrano; proof that Serrano was in the game and running Richmond ragged, but I think this may be from the 1st half of the match. Alliteration aside, good thing I don’t do this for a living.
More corner celebrations by the Boys in Purple and lots of fan pics. These goals are good for the soul.
Ok, remember how I said that Gleadle would eventually score? And remember how excellent I am at missing goals? Enjoy the goal below by Gleadle. (Not pictured, Sam Gleadle.) But really, the assist is frequently underappreciated, so enjoy these snaps of the Player of the Match, Taylor Davila, setting up the goal and then admiring Gleadle’s ball in the next and Green Keeper on the ground.
I don’t want to minimize the impact that Goodrum had on the game, so here’s a good run from Goodrum. I’ll show myself out.
Serrano thought he might be able to sneak in a second goal - and he was so close - so he expressed his discontent the same way I do when we’re out of wine at my house.
The last goal by Adrien Perez was a beauty. The crowd was just as thrilled by this one as the first. Then began the “Bri-an-Own-by” chants.
Enjoy the Brian Ownby appreciation gallery. As always, feel free to download these. Maybe you want a Brian Ownby poster to hang over your mantle? No judgement.
More pictures from the post-match celebration. The Boys in Purple are so generous with their time! My favorite is 6th from the top, where Kyle Adams shares hair tips with a young fan. And the 7th - these sweet girls asked me for my autograph. Don’t worry, I spared them some ruined scarves.
