The One with the Racing Home Opener
Emma Sears celebrates her goal that gave Racing a 2-0 lead over the Spirit.
Whoever coined the term “March Madness” must’ve known about the sports tornado that would land in Louisville during St. Patrick’s week 2026. Local sports fans were still working on their NCAA basketball brackets when news broke about Lou City’s coach, Danny Cruz, departing for an assistant coaching job at Minnesota United FC. Simon Bird stepped up as interim head coach to lead Lou City to a 4-1 victory over Southern Indiana FC in a Cup match less than 72 hours after the announcement about Cruz. Meanwhile, the Yum! Center hosted round 1 of the women’s basketball tournament that included a UofL victory over Vermont. That same day, Lynn Family again opened its doors for Lou City to collect 3 points by defeating Rhode Island FC.
And in the middle of all that, Racing Louisville hosted the Washington Spirit for the home opener on Friday, March 20th. In order to recap in a way that is worthy of the dedicated fanbase, I will postpone my commentary a few days so that I can get all my facts straight and not credit that first Racing goal to Kyle Adams or Mackenly Randolph.
